What is The Charter?
The BTQ Charter sets out long-term social, economic and environmental ambitions for regeneration in Temple Quarter, and provides a framework to enable all organisations based or working locally to contribute.
The Charter will build on the achievements of organisations already delivering social and environmental outcomes in BTQ through their own efforts. The Charter aims to coordinate this work, encourage more partners to get involved, and make sure that time and investment is targeted to deliver maximum benefit.
Charter Priorities
The Charter aims to enable everyone working in BTQ to contribute towards inclusive and sustainable growth by shaping action at all stages: from early design through to long term operation. Nine priorities will be used to guide the approach of anyone who wants to get involved.
Annually refreshed goals will help focus the collective working and delivery. A steering group with local organisations and yearly impact reports will make sure progress against goals is kept accountable and visible.
Why we need a Charter
BTQ must use this moment of investment and change to respond to inequality in Bristol. It will only be successful if it puts people and planet first to achieve inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Regeneration must improve the lives and health of people living on the doorstep, alongside communities across Bristol and the West of England. New residents and businesses will need to work together with established communities to become successful stewards. It must also actively lead the place-based response to the climate emergency, supporting Bristol and the West of England’s transition to net zero and long-term environmental resilience.
The Charter aims to help everyone working across BTQ understand these challenges and make an active contribution towards addressing them.
Getting involved
The Charter is for the breadth of organisations based or working locally, including businesses, developers, contractors and community organisations. These partners are invited to identify the priorities which they are best able to support, and the practical ways in which they want to get involved.
There are lots of ways to contribute, such as staff time, space, funding, or aligning and measuring existing initiatives. The BTQ Team will provide bespoke support to organisations engaging with the Charter, including advice to help develop plans and projects; access to relevant information to shape early thinking; and clear, simple signposting to existing services to support delivery.
Being involved in the Charter gives people the opportunity to be part of a growing community interested in delivering more successful approaches to regeneration. Partners will be able to input into and be part of an annual report demonstrating impact, and be recognised for their contribution to the Charter on the BTQ website and supporting materials.
