Business Profile: First Intuition

First Intuition is a national accountancy tuition provider based in the City Point building opposite Temple Meads station. It has study centres across the country (and one in Madrid), and the Bristol branch has been rapidly growing since setting up in 2011. We spoke to Simon Emery, partner at First Intuition Bristol, to find out more about the business.

Number of employees: There are about ten employees in the Bristol branch, made up of full time staff and freelancers.

Length of time in the Enterprise Zone: Four and a half years

Why did you choose the Enterprise Zone for your Bristol centre? The location is perfect: being close to Temple Meads means it’s easy for students to commute from a range of places. We have students coming from Gloucester, Cheltenham, Taunton, North Devon, the South Coast, Cardiff and South Wales.

How would you describe First Intuition to someone who’s never heard of it? We teach people to pass accountancy exams: skills-based professional qualifications that support the business services community by either delivering financial and related services to external clients or by working as part of internal financial teams within businesses. Our teaching is done face to face or online, and has a focus on making learning and practising new skills more manageable and effective.

In the past two years, we have had three world-wide prize winners and many regional prize winners amongst our students and, in 2014, we were voted PQ Magazine Private Sector College of the Year.

What makes First Intuition different from other providers? We are passionate owner mangers with over 80 years of relevant training experience between us, and pride ourselves in being the opposite of a homogenised, process-driven corporate business.

We know our students and clients personally; we believe that everyone is different and that one size does not fit all. We aim to understand their differences and work with them to make studying more manageable. This strategy has proven to be very successful: our pass rates always exceed the national averages.
