The UK’s annual gathering of annual environmental communicators celebrates its tenth year in 2012, bringing over 150 professionals to Bristol each year. ‘Communicate’ is produced by the Bristol Natural History Consortium, a charitable collaboration between Defra, BBC Natural History Unit, National Trust, Bristol Zoo, Bristol City Council and others.

In 2012, the conference has adopted a theme of “Breaking Boundaries”. Showcase speakers include David Shukman, BBC’s Science Editor; Ed Gillespie , Founder of Futerra Sustainability; Richard Hawkins, Director of the Public Interest Research Centre.

The conference will be opened by Bristol’s own Wendy Darke, recently appointed as the first female Head of the Natural History Unit, internationally known for productions such as “Frozen Planet” and “Life”.

For the tenth anniversary, the conference will be held in partnership with Bristol Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone, demonstrating the commitment of the enterprise zone to sustainability and creating innovative networks for local businesses to share communication challenges. The conference will be taking place in the Passenger Shed at Temple Meads Station, within the Enterprise Zone on 24th and 25th October.

Savita Custead, Chief Executive of Bristol Natural History Consortium, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to situate the conference in the middle of the Local Enterprise Zone. Not only is it an interesting and developing area, but the ideas being discussed through the development of the zone fit incredibly well with the emphasis on new communication tools being developed over two days.”

Alun Owen, Bristol City Council’s service director for major projects, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting Communicate in the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone. This is a nationally recognised conference that brings together green business leaders and the creative industries, both of which are at the heart of the Enterprise Zone.”

Those unable to attend the conference are able to interact during the event through a live blog, or review a record of proceedings following the two days, at www.communicatenow.org
