The Cattle Market Road project has enhanced the provision pedestrian and cycle access to Temple Island along the southern edge of Temple Meads station, alongside The New Cut.

More pavement space

Cattle Market Road has now reopened one-way eastbound for traffic, easing congestion at the Bath Road junction. This change has created space for a more generous pavement and a segregated two-way cycle path. In time, this will be one of the key access routes for pedestrians and cyclists travelling to Temple Island.

Better views

The landscape along The New Cut will be improved with new walks and native planting, providing spaces to enjoy views across the water to Temple Island and to Totterdown Basin.

Safe gateway

By evening, Cattle Market Road will be transformed into a safe and welcoming space. In time, it is anticipated that sites along Cattle Market Road will be redeveloped to introduce new uses at street level, helping the place to feel more vibrant throughout the day. The latest of these developments to be announced is the University of Bristol’s plans for Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus on the former sorting office site.
