Paintworks is a 12 acre mixed-use development aimed at creative people and companies. It is based in the south of the Enterprise Zone, run by Verve Properties and opened in 2006.
There are currently over 100 small and medium sized businesses based at Paintworks, 11 live/work units, 17 loft style residential units and a central hub with a café/bar, performance space, gallery and events space.
Four phases of work have been planned to develop the site: phases I and II took place between 2005 and 2008, phase III is currently underway and phase IV is due to be complete by 2018. In total, the developments will contribute a total of 250,000 square feet of active space. Over 500 jobs have already been attracted by the site, and this is expected to rise to about 1,000 when the work is completed. More information about what to expect from phases III and IV of the work is below.
Now nearing completion at the eastern end of the site, this phase will provide around 6,700 square metres of new employment and commercial floor space, 11 live/work units and 210 houses and apartments. More information about Phase III is available on the Paintworks website.
Phase IV of Paintworks will see the demolition of the Endemol building and partial demolition of Building 6 to enable the creation of four new buildings and new public spaces. This will provide 1,887 square metres of bespoke commercial space, as well as residential units (including affordable housing), car parking spaces and secure cycle storage. Planning permission was granted for Phase IV on 21 December 2016, and more information and visuals are available on the Paintworks website.
