How long have you been going?

The White Balance was founded in 2007 and became The White Balance Imaging Ltd in 2009 after we were commissioned by the BBC for a series of children’s animations.

Why did you decide to set this business up?

I met my wife and co founder of The White Balance whilst working in London at an architectural visualisation company. We both felt we had the skill set and creative tools to be able to cross industry platforms rather than stay constrained to just architecture. We set up The White Balance to do this; we wanted to create a niche company that creatively and uniquely approached every project with a fresh look. Using our core skills of 3d visualisation and animation we have been able to successfully adapt our creative flair into different platforms of illustration and animation.

What is the business?

At The White Balance we explore ideas and create solutions. Working with the Architectural, Advertising, Media and Editorial industries we produce digital artwork and animations to the highest industry standard. Clients come to us for marketing and communication material and we work with them to explore visions and create content that communicates their message. The core of our business is 3d architectural visualisation, but we have a flexible approach to suit all 3D, motion graphics and VFX that gives us the pocket we wanted for The White Balance.

Any quirky/interesting facts about it, interesting people or projects you’ve worked with/on?

We have had the opportunity to work on so many varied projects, at one time in the studio we had a large architectural master-planning animation in Russia, a motion graphics title sequence for a Spandau Ballet documentary and a 2D animation series for CBBC!

How many people are there in your business?

We are a Husband and Wife team with a large network of regular in house freelancers and external supporting studios.

Why have you chosen to relocate to Bristol Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone?

Since relocating to The Paintworks in 2010 we have been able to be part of a creative community that enables collaborations and commissions on site. It’s a fantastic site that is a huge part of our company; this is why we want to be here.

What do you want to see happening in Bristol Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone?

I would love to see better connections and cross links between each hub spot in the zone. Regular networking and promotional events would be a great way to interact with other companies located in BTQEZ and show clients the importance and benefits of our locations.
